Rules

Free participation but limited to the maximum number of teams. 

Sports and games competition for teams competing according to the rules established by this regulation, inspired by the official rules of the Tug of War.

In the races only the mixed category is allowed and the teams are composed of 6 men and 1 woman, the team can have a reserve for both sexes (total 2). The inclusion of reserves is optional.

WEIGHT

The maximum weight limit for participating teams per draw is set in kg. 550. The weight is declared by the participants and taken for granted, unless there are obvious discrepancies with reality of the facts. The weight will be written on the athletes’ arms at the beginning of each pull; the judges will verify that the sum is within the maximum allowed.

TEAMS AND SUBSTITUTION

The race is considered to have started for the teams when they are in the shooting position under the direct supervision of the chair judge. Athletes may only be replaced by reserves of the same sex and replacement can be carried out at will; but the exchange rates must be declared from the captain before each single pull.

CAPTAIN

Each team must have a captain/player that will be the representative for the organization. 

EQUIPMENT

The teams will wear the clothing they deem most appropriate and a t-shirt

of the same colour. Gloves, hooks or belts intended to secure the rope on the body are not allowed.

DESCRIPTION OF THE ROPE

The rope will have a circumference of about 10 cm and a length of about 24 meters, free from knots or handles for hands. The ends of the rope will be finished with adhesive tape.

MARKING

Three adhesive tapes or markings shall be affixed as follows:

  1. a) one (1) in the center of the rope. (MIDDLE MARK)
  2. b) two (2) four (4) meters from the center on both sides. (SIDE MARKS)

SHOOTING AREA

The competition takes place on anti-traumatic carpet and the race field has a size of 20 meters long and 2 meters wide. 

No competitor will grab the rope within the marked parts. At the beginning of each draw, the first shooter will hold the rope as close to the outside of the marking as possible.

SHOOTING POSITION

Each shooter for a normal grip will hold the rope with both hands and palms facing up. Any hold which obstructs the free movement of the rope shall be considered as an offence; the feet should be extended forward towards the knees, when the team members are in initial firing position.

INFRINGEMENTS DURING THE RACE

  1. Sitting (sedersi) = deliberately sitting on the carpet
  2. Leaning (appoggiarsi) = touch the ground with any part of the body except feet.
  3. Locking (morsa) = any seal that hinders the free movement of the rope.
  4. Grip (presa) = any grip other than the ordinary grip.
  5. Propping (sostenersi) = weave the rope with your own body weight.
  6. Climbing (arrampicarsi) = hand-rolled rope.

DISQUALIFICATION

Teams will receive two warnings (YELLOW CARD) for a single draw, after which there will be the disqualification and the single draw lost to the table.

ARBITRATION

4 side judges who will report infringements with the use of a whistle.

1 chair judge who will be responsible for the proper conduct of the race.

MATCH AND SCORE

Before the draw begins, there will be a selection of the side of the field for coin drawing. The formula of the competition includes 12 teams with a direct elimination and repechage table. Each round is played at the best of 2 drawn out of 3.

The team that wins:

– draws the side mark of the rope, that placed 4 meters from the opposite side, on the centerline.

– at the end of the 5 minutes has the central mark in its own half field.

The 6 winning teams from the first round and the 2 losing teams with the highest score are in the starting line. In the event of a tie, direct confrontation shall be held at one draw.

In case of an extension of the competition to 16 teams, the formula does not provide for a repechage, but direct access to the quarterfinals for the winners.

Each match is always played at the best of 2 drawn out of 3.
